Mido Commander

I had the opportunity to handle two pieces of Mido Commanders recently. One of them is the recent 8425 model while the other is the older 8269 model. Both watches are powered by the ETA 2836 movement.

Here's a short introduction of the Mido Commander found on their website:

First launched in 1959, the design of Mido?s most famous collection has remained basically the same over the decades. It is one of the very few real watch classics of the watch industry and highly appreciated by connoisseurs and collectors of fine Swiss timepieces.

If you do a search, you will be able to find some sites with detailed introduction.

Mido 8269

The 8425 has a diameter of 39mm while that of the 8269 is 37mm. Both watches have similar dial design except for slight difference in the dial inscriptions as well as the shape of the hour markers. I also notice that the 8425 has got minute indexes on its chapter ring while that of the 8269 does not.

The 8425 has the words "Swiss Made" inscribed on the bottom of the dial while the 8269 is marked "T-Swiss Made-T" indicating that it uses Tritium activated luminous material.

The 8425 has a nicer bracelet compared to the 8269. It is more sturdy and has brush finished surface compared to the polished finished on that of the 8269.

The 8425 comes with push button clasp while the 8269 does not. The clasp is 18mm wide while that of the 8269 is about 11mm. This means the bracelet on the 8425 tapers to 18mm while that of the 8269 tapers to 11mm.

Here are the casebacks (top: 8425, bottom: 8269):

As you can see, they are using one-piece case.
